Meaningful professional development that comes from the trenches and is delivered by a veteran teacher is hard to come by. Teachers want to hear strategies and see resources that have been tried and tested by their fellow teachers, not by a company representative who is no longer (or never was) in the classroom. You can rest assured that professional development with Mrs. Shipley will bring strategies and resources that I have used (and continue to use) every day in the classroom.
There are several options for professional development with Mrs. Shipley. From on-site conferences to Skype sessions, we can work together to create the best experience for you and your staff, as well as your budget.
The following professional development sessions are available in 1, 2, 3, and 5 hour sessions.
Any teacher knows that without good classroom management, real learning can not, and will not, take place. Are you frustrated with your current method of classroom management? Is the clip chart, color card, marble jar or other method you are using not working? Perhaps they worked in September but they have lost their shine and luster. Are you ready for classroom management that your administration will rave about at the next faculty meeting? This session is for you! (While some WBT methods are used in my classroom, other methods for classroom management are used in conjuction and thus, this session will highlight all strategies and methods. This is a session designed to share what has worked and not worked in my classroom.)
Now that you have your classroom management under control, it is time to step up the engagement and excitement of your lessons. Imagine delivering a lesson on fractions, parts of speech, or even plant anatomy and having your scholars eating out of your hands, begging for more. More learning? Why yes! They will be begging. Now imagine teaching your lesson once and knowing whether your scholars truly understood your lesson and having the tools necessary to, in the moment, assess their retention and application of the material you just taught! No more disruptions during your lesson that cause you to pull your hair out. Scholars cannot help but stay engaged during your lesson that you have carefully and tirelessly prepared. Those that try? They too will find themselves unable to resist the fun and excitement that you are creating. Let me show you the magic behind the engaging lessons and videos that have taken over YouTube from my classroom. You too can have scholars on fire for learning! Included in this session are strategies that I have used and hands on learning activities that will engage your scholars. (Please note this is NOT a WBT traning session. Some WBT strategies are used in my classrom but for truely engaging lessons, other strategies and methods are used as well. This session takes all strategies that I have used and includes, but is not limited to, interactive think-pair-share, transition from absorbing information to recalling information, interactive notebooking, collaborative learning and more.)
Guided Reading (or small group reading) is nothing new. Now it’s time to take your Guided reading sessions to a whole new level. This training is a 2 hour session that will give you the ins and outs of how I have incorporated interactive reading into my guided reading sessions. With this training you will receive a copy of my Interactive Reading resource that will give you all the materials to have your scholars reading deeper, interacting with the text they are reading, and have meaningful discussions with their peers about the text they are reading.
Our scholars are growing up in a 21st century world yet our classrooms continue to look like they did 100 years ago. Are you afraid to let go and let your scholars take control? Perhaps you are afraid your scholars know more than you do when it comes to technology? Are you ready to jump head first into a BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD) or perhaps you have access to a class set of devices? One device in your classroom? No problem. I have experienced every situation and would love to help you transform your classroom into a 21st learning environment. From device management, implementation, creative apps and collaboration, this training session will help you turn your scholars into digitally responsible citizens. Don’t use your devices as game players. Use them to enhance the learning already taking place in your classroom in a way that will engage and excite your scholars.
If you are interested in setting up a training please follow the link below and fill out the form. I will return your email as soon as possible with details regarding your request. Please remember that I am a classroom teacher as well and my schedule is limited during the school year. Most on-site trainings must happen on a Saturday(during the school year) or through Skype (in the afternoon). Thank you for your interest! I look forward to meeting you!
